About The Gurkhas Society

The Gurkhas celebrate Nepalese culture through events, food, music, traditional dress, and community. Join us to connect, share traditions and meet new friends in a warm, vibrant, and welcoming space.

The‍‌‍‍‌ Gurkhas Society at the University of Roehampton is a student-led organisation that represents and celebrates Nepalese culture within the university community. The society serves as a safe space for Nepalese students and also attracts people from different backgrounds who want to know the traditions, values and heritage of Nepal. It operates to provide understanding, cultural exchange and the feeling of being part of a group through different educational and social activities.

Season after season the Gurkhas Society commits itself to hosting different types of events such as cultural discussions, language sessions, film screenings, and informal gatherings that focus on various aspects of Nepalese life. These events give members access to a wide range of discussion topics such as history, festivals, food, music and the distinctiveness of the Gurkhas. Furthermore, the society is actively engaged in on-campus programs, work with other student groups and do community projects that are in line with their principles of unity, respect, and service.

Beyond the cultural programs, the Gurkhas Society is dedicated to the welfare of the students throughout their academic and personal journey at Roehampton. As a result, the society becomes instrumental in promoting diversity across the campus as it extends a friendly community to the students, leadership growth prospects and areas where they can interact socially in a meaningful ‍‌‍‍‌way.
