Chickens

Our edible campus is also home to up to fifteen hens and located on Froebel College.

Located next to The Hive Cafè, it is the perfect place to drop by with a hot drink and enjoy the clucking!

The chickens are cared for by volunteers. If you'd like to get involved with our coop, you can find more information here.

What Our Can Chickens Do For You

Our Hens are a mixed flock that include a number of ex-factory hens, some adopted from schools and others that have been rehomed from the local community. Some have even been hatched on campus!

Many of them would have faced an early death or will have had to stay in animal shelters. Instead, we work to ensure they have a quiet life in a secure flock with an outside run and an organic diet of campus-grown greens.

Our chickens produce approximately 40 eggs a month which are then sold at The Hive Cafè.

Spending time with the chickens is a truly rewarding experience. You'll get the opportunity to meet a flock of curious, stubborn and funny hens who will just want to say hello.

Volunteering to care for our chickens is a great way to get a break from the hustle and bustle of London.

If you are interested in volunteering, or just want to meet our flock. Drop us an email at growhampton@roehampton.ac.uk. The ladies can't wait to meet you!
