And That’s a (Wonderful) Wrap!

Winter Wonderland comes to close after sweets, treats and College Cup feats as we wish Roehampton a Merry Christmas.

Our biggest and best Winter Wonderland has now been and gone. The stalls have been packed up, the decorations in Hirst taken down to make way for the last few remaining lectures to take place, and our RSU Christmas jumpers were proven to be immensely popular!

The day started off at 1:00pm, with all the stalls set up outside in the Mews – selling food from popcorn to the delicious chicken and vegetarian paella from Spanish Homemade. There were also loads of opportunities to get involved with various projects and help out, including the Help for Refugees stall and the RAG stall.

RAG were the wonderful people selling our RSU Christmas jumpers. The green ones, featuring Santa and his sleigh flying over Grove House, proved to be the more popular of the two colours; they sold out completely. The red ones, too, though, were also popular; they very nearly sold out and featured the four college mascots with a Chrimbo twist.

Indeed, the jumpers went down well – almost as well as Racing Bug’s Scalectrix set. The huge racing set, where you control your remote car via a steering wheel and peddles and not just a finger-tapping button, was hugely popular and people fought for the title of fastest racer. Plenty of staff even got involved!

At 5:00pm, our Winter Wonderland moved into its second phase. The Bavarian Village opened and the beer started flowing. Live music was played, filling Hirst building with the sound of Christmas cheer while people munched on hot dogs, popcorn and pulled-turkey wraps with all the trimmings.

We gave out steins, too, to give you that true Bavarian feel – with beer, Pimms, mulled wine and hot Ribena on tap throughout the evening. Our Rodeo Reindeer and Christmas photo booth provided much of the laughter throughout the hall, with our very own Sabbs trying their hand on Rudolph. We aren’t sure what the record is, but we’re sure someone managed to beat our VP of Welfare!

The event finished with queue-jumping wrist bands being handed out to Grand-goers, after which the buses were loaded up and all of our merry, merry students headed to our second Christmas club night of the week.

Winter Wonderland this year was a success: a challenge to arrange, a rewarding sight to see pay off. It’s a pedestal upon which we can now continue to build and, hopefully, continue to out do ourselves year after year, Christmas after Christmas. Get ready for next year! In the meantime, however, good luck with those last few assignments, that last bit of revision and that last exam.

Have a wonderful Christmas break and enjoy all the food, drink and Christmas TV – just as we will! To everyone at Roehampton, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
