Women's Conference: The Greatest Guest Speaker?

We recently just saw our inaugural LGBT Conference set a very high bar for its successors in the coming years. Roehampton alumni and theatre actor Matt Henry gave a killer speech that inspired, motivated and encouraged the entire room.

The former “Kinky Boots” star has now cemented his place in the RSU hall of fame as one of the best guest speakers we’ve ever had – an honour we’re not quite sure will sit alongside his MBE, Olivier Award or Grammy nomination but, still, he was excellent.

However, with our upcoming Women’s Conference, his mantle of ‘greatest guest speaker’ may be taken away from him as quickly as it was given to him. We have secured three fabulous keynote speakers for our second annual Women’s Conference – with a variety of incredible women coming to our university to help inspire and empower you.

The first of those speakers is fellow MBE-recipient Dr Rimla Akhtar. Dr Akhtar is a businesswoman and sports administrator who champions inclusivity in sport. She was the first person who publicly identified herself as a Muslim and Asian woman on the Football Association Council – a great achievement.

Our second speaker is Kayza Rose – change maker who is Head of Media Production at UK Black Pride and is also the Executive Director of Black Out London, an activism organisation aimed at tackling the issues arising from the discrimination and oppression of people of colour.

Our third speaker is none other than the creator of the #MeToo movement herself, the wonderful Jane Merrick. Merrick has also written for The Telegraph, is a political commentator and was the Time Person of The Year 2017, a fantastic accomplishment from the woman behind #MeToo. Merrick also runs several blogs, including her allotment blog Her Outdoors.

With these great speakers lined up, Matt Henry is due to be challenged for the crown of greatest speaker. Whatever the case, we are thrilled and proud to be able to present these awe-inspiring people to you guys.

Our Women’s Leadership will take place on the 7th of March and tickets are completely free! To grab yours, follow the link below!
