RECRUITMENT PACK

Roehampton Students’ Union is the representative body for students at the University of Roehampton. It is a charity led by students, and we are honoured to be part of a diverse, vibrant, and supportive community.

Our mission is to represent, support, and develop students from all backgrounds at Roehampton and enable them to have the best possible university experience.

Our vision is to create a truly inclusive community and environment where students at Roehampton thrive.

The Board of Trustees is the Students’ Union’s governing body, and it has overall responsibility for the management and administration of the Students’ Union including its finance, governance, and strategic plan.

We have recently launched a new three-year strategic plan and are seeking an externally appointed Trustee to join the Trustee Board.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an individual committed to the role of Students’ Unions and support the values of student leadership, democracy, non for profit and an inclusive approach. Ideally, we are seeking to appoint individuals who will add a mix of skills and bring diversity to our Trustee Board.

We hope to strengthen in the following areas through the recruitment of an External Trustee.

  • Governance
  • Financial Management and Audit
  • Charity and Company directorship
  • Human Resources
  • Strategy and Performance

What We Expect

We are requesting the appointed Trustee to be open to serving a full four-year term. External Trustees can serve for a maximum of two terms. With the term of office much shorter for student and officer trustees, the long-term commitment of external ensures that the union has consistency and stability at the highest level.

  • Attendance at Board Meetings and Sub-Committees: The Trustee Board will meet between four and six times a year, and its sub-committees usually meet twice. In addition to that it would be valuable if you attended our annual general members meeting where you can meet the part time officers and some students. These meetings can take place in the evening but may be during the day when more detailed work or planning is required
  • Support Officer Trustees: Outside of board meetings there may be occasions when the Officer and Student Trustees turn to you for your experience and knowledge.
  • An involvement with the Union: you will take an active interest in the union through activities. It would be beneficial if you occasionally attended RSU events and activities to gain a greater understanding of what we achieve as well as undertake the necessary reading and preparation for meetings.

How do I Apply?

Valuing diversity As an organisation responsible for representing the interests of a diverse body of students, we fully encourage applicants from all demographics and backgrounds so that our Board is as diverse as the students we represent.

Please read the role description and person specification in External Trustee Recruitment Pack to understand the full extent of what the role is and requires.

Please send a CV and covering letter to Farrah Black, Students’ Union President, RSU, Froebel College, Roehampton University, Roehampton Lane, London, SW15 5PJ or by email to rsu@roehampton.ac.uk

Deadline: 12:00 noon on Monday 30th May 2022
