Hello, my name is Lauren Bundy and I am running to be your next Vice President of Education.

You may not recognise me, but since September I have seen many of you as the face who: answered questions or gave direction at freshers week, given you a wrist band at Bop, Le fez or Grand, handed you a puppy at the de-stress event, sold merchandise to you at re-freshers fair, and most recently, offered free hot chocolate in return for filling out the NSS student survey. These are many instances where I have been another helpful and friendly face, but I now want to make a bigger impression by standing in this election to be a sabbatical officer.

Participating in a role as part of the RSU events team has allowed me to see all the work they do in order to put together and action requests from the students. I am eager to be a part of this, and I want to continue working towards making your time at Roehampton as best it can be. I am very passionate about Roehampton as an institution for learning, and I would be thrilled to be involved in improving the student experience for all programmes and departments.

From studying as an undergraduate here myself, and currently doing a masters, I feel as though I have a thorough understanding of the things that are a struggle as a student, where there is opportunity for improvement, and new ideas to be introduced.

The degree you have selected and your choice to remain in further education, is the reason you are here! And I want to make this as positive of an experience as possible. These are some of the things I wish to address in my time in this position:

§   Work towards increasing access to study resources. Boost the number of E-books available, and hard back copies of texts across all programmes.

§  Work closely and more frequently with the Department and Programme reps to get the feedback from all courses and take action based on student responses.

§  Improve the amount of employability skills and careers talks involved in all programmes that are currently in place. In many cases, these talks are included in your lecture time, as the purpose of your degree is to get you a job, but I want to ensure there are also opportunities outside of lecture time, that are specifically programme focused, to get you the answers and support you need and preparation for leaving university, as well as support for continuing onto Masters, PGCE or other higher education courses.

§  Continue to run postgraduate and undergraduate cross overs, to allow for the two bodies of students to integrate in and out of lecture time.

§  Ensure there is a fair, all-inclusive curriculum, and marking procedures for all students, and work towards improving the time and detail of feedback from assignments.

My manifesto outlines aims I have in mind, but you have a say too!
