Roehampton, Give me a try, VOTE LEVI

Roehampton University,

My name is Levi Mbiya and I am running to be your next VP Education. A lot of you have probably seen me selling tickets on the door at Bop and I am also Froebel College Warden.  But for those of you who don’t know me, I was previously Vice President of Southlands College. I have enjoyed being a prominent member of student life.

My Motivation

Our journey as students can be stressful and turbulent, and my journey has been no different. My Roehampton story began as an undergrad and I'm currently a postgraduate student. There have been late nights in the library, excitement of handing in dissertations, but also hours of procrastination, as with everyone. What I'm trying to say is, whether you’re an undergraduate or postgraduate student, I know how you feel!

Roehampton University has given me so much and I feel it’s time I gave something back. As your VP Education, I want to ensure that the University equips students with the best chance at success and I want to give you effective change that will allow you to succeed!

My Campaign Promises

  • Problem: The Attainment Gap; this has gone on for too long and it’s time a VP education stepped in to make effective change.

How I will solve it: Workshops will be created, I will continue to use the RAFA 2 initiative as well as working with existing societies to improve the dialogue surrounding issues involving the BAME community. I will also spread awareness of initiatives, so students know what’s being done.

  • Problem: Assignment Dates; for too long assignments have been placed on dates that don’t equip students with the best chance at success. Students are deprived access to lecturers help and also access to welfare services.

How I will solve it: I will work closely with heads of departments to ensure that assignment dates take into account access to lecturers and welfare services, to equip students with the best chance at success in their degrees.

  • Problem: The excessive cost of graduation has a negative impact on what should be a time for celebration.

How I will solve it: I will lobby the university to subsidise either the cost for graduation or provide a fund for those who cannot afford the expensive costs

  • Problem: 24 HR Library Scheduling

How I will solve it: I will work with departments to ensure the 24hr library is provided when deadlines are at the worst, students work on different schedules, it’s time the University noticed this.

  • Problem: NO Wednesday afternoon lectures for sports teams

How I will solve it: This has gone on for too long, we need no Wednesday afternoon lectures for all departments, undergraduate and postgraduate.

Roehampton, it’s time to elect a VP Education that effects change, I will pull through on my campaign promises, provide change, and provide you with the success that University should give you.

Roehampton, Give me a try, Vote LEVI.
