A VOTE FOR DRE IS A VOTE FOR CHANGE!

Hello, my name is Dre Mbwese and I am running to be your representation and your voice as your new Froebel President. As students we share the common goal of achieving the targets we set for ourselves in our degrees, but everyone studies differently. Froebel is the only college to not have a 24-hour computer room at any point of the year, despite the facilities we have that are fully capable of being open for 24 hours at least during deadline or exam periods. This is something I look to change.

I have enjoyed the labours that are involved in the role of a flat representative but have also felt the challenges it presents. This emphasised the importance of all year-round support for the flat representative team, as I feel two days of training simply is not enough to be able to prepare a flat rep to accommodate to each of their flat mates personalities and needs. I look to provide more support by holding monthly senior flat rep meetings. I would also like to improve mental health services on Froebel for quicker, more available and evident service.

As Froebel president, I want to continue old Froebel traditions such as frigby, even though it is student led. We also have London on our doorstep but we rarely seem to take advantage of it, which is why I look to hold events such as a Froebel boat party and use London to be more inclusive. For example, catering for students that do not drink or attend night events to do more activities during the day. One of my main goals for off campus students is to organise a formal welcome dinner at the beginning of the year and hold a Christmas dinner, as they are unable to attend these events. Another one of my primary objectives is to ensure the inclusion of all Froebel students. Froebel is a very diverse college but I feel it is under-represented. One way I aim to make every student feel welcome and wanted is to work closely with the next BAME officer, encouraging more BAME student involvement in college life by increasing awareness of BAME societies and events so no BAME student ever feels like they are one of few.

As BAME Officer I have been involved in a range of events such as hosting a spoken word night on the topic of mental health and was involved with the 2018 BAME conference. Alongside this role I have worked closely with UBM (Universal Black Minds) being part of the committee, overseeing the marketing and promotion of events, such as; winter ball, Art and Culture night and several debate nights. The experiences and leadership skills I developed within this role, has helped to fuel my passion to become Froebel President. As president I want to push for the inclusion of every Froebel student and ensure the reinforcement of community we pride ourselves on regardless of your ethnicity, background, religion, culture or living location.
