Farrah Black

Hi, I'm Farrah Alice Black: second year drama student, RoePaul's drag society president and chicken volunteer. Vote for someone who reflects yourself: vote for F.A.B

I believe in spreading knowledge and kindness like peanut butter and jam, and approaching every challenge by being both fantastical and practical.

If elected as your gender equality officer, I promise to hear out all student concerns equally. I aim to do everything with both fun and purpose, and it’s time to take practical, effective action to empower Roehampton students of all gender identities to be informed, confident and unashamedly proud feminists.

Here are my three main plans for achieving this:

1. We have to learn from each other in order to actively support one another. To do this, I aim to collaborate with as many other officers as possible: to ensure that feminism at Roehampton is always intersectional and supports all gender identities. I also vow to do research and listen to as many students as possible, as I acknowledge that there may well be issues of gender inequality that I- as a cis white woman- may never personally experience. I see it as essential that I learn from as many different people as possible, if I want to truly ensure that the RSU and University are both enjoyable and accommodating to the needs of all.

2. Sexual assault has to be made easier for students to confidentially report. I have an idea for a page on the RSU website: It would ask for a name of the perpetrator (if known) or appearance description, and as much of a description of the incident as the student feels comfortable providing. A reported student would be emailed a document that clearly explains what consent is, as well as a form which they will be asked to complete, sign and return within a week. This is to confirm that they fully understand what sexual assault is, and will not repeat the incident. This way, if they are reported again, I will personally consider this a breach of contract and they will be banned from RSU events. The student union is a fun, safe place for fun and safe students who deserve a positive University experience. That should never be ruined by those who knowingly cause harm to others.

3. I would like to spread more information and awareness for current feminist issues, as well as ways all students can actively learn more and get involved. Therefore, I feel the best way to start this would be to re-start the feminist society, as it is a vital cog that this year has been sadly lost from the RSU. Its platform could be used to recommend informative and fun resources, advertise activist events such as conferences and marches across London, as well as raise awareness about current issues across the world. By sharing information and media, we could ensure that next year more students than ever graduate as informed, curious and empowered global feminists- ready to change the world!

If you vote for me, all of your wildest dreams will come true.
