Candidate for the position of Sport Roehampton President (Female)

Annie May King

PLAY AND WIN LIKE A KING VOTE FOR ANNIE KING

HI!

My name is Annie King and I’d love to be your Female Sports President next year.

You may know me through sports such as Rugby and boxing, but I’m mostly recognised for Volleyball as for the past 2 years I’ve been the Women’s volleyball captain. I have had so much fun organising social events (tough as it was during covid) while following the regulations and activities to create a “Real Team”. I’ve organised lots of social drinks and with the nice weather, volleyball on the lawn, as well as the team joining in on karaoke at the union bar. Now we are getting back to normal I have been busier with the volleyball training, matches, recruiting players and support such as Ref’s linesmen etc. and organising ‘real’ volleyball again and this has been fun, but hard work and this process as inspired me to run as Female Sports President.

My Goals:

This year has been particularly tough for everyone and especially tough on our students which due to Covid regulations have limited us greatly.

Therefore, I feel it is of great importance with your vote to achieve these goals:

Sports teams:

  • I will work on improving travel for away fixtures and making it easier to travel as a team ensuring all team members arrive to their fixture together and on time.

  • I will help all clubs grow by promoting their training sessions ensuring they have sufficient players to play in games resulting in fewer walkovers.

  • I will ensure all teams have sufficient equipment and coaching to facilitate home games and training sessions.

  • I’d like to create a no interest payment plan for those who can’t afford the bulk payment of the Olympic membership for sports.

Charity events:

I vouch to have at least 1 charity event every three months with event ideas such as:

  • October- breast cancer awareness month – wearing pink to all sports games.
  • November – Movember, our sports teams will participate in growing the best moustache, an event to raise money with a judging panel.
  • May - Mental Health Month, having pub quizzes to raise money and awareness.

Mental health:

  • I will focus a great deal on mental health and well-being for students organising events to help raise awareness such as fundraising for charities like mind and student Minds which I have previously done in the past.

Events:

  • Not only will I create more charity events to fundraise, but I’d also like to create an event which praises all wins from the sports teams no matter how big or small at the end of the year including a player of the year awardacross sports teams.

  • I’d also vouch for there to be more promotion around sports night making Wednesday nights live again for our sports teams and students.
