Together we win.

Hello, my name is Adaobi Grace Nwokeanochie, LLM student in Human rights and legal practice. I would be honoured to be your postgraduate officer.

Beyond receiving a qualifying certificate at the end of our programmes as postgraduate students, we deserve to massively benefit from our university experience; socially, physically and otherwise. In these few months that I have spent at the University of Roehampton, I have noticed the disconnect between postgraduate students and the university. This has stirred up my desire to stand in as the postgraduate officer. The Roehampton student union has made great progress by including postgraduate representation through this office. On this foundation, I know we can achieve more together.

According to Harvey Firestone ‘the growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership’. As your postgraduate officer, I hope to achieve the following:

  • Foster inclusivity, networking and communication amongst postgraduate students through various social activities and community events.

  • Increase communication between the Students’ Union and postgraduate students to try and provide everyone with regular updates on what the Student’s Union is doing to improve the experience of all students.

  • Increase career opportunities for postgraduate students through close collaboration with CareerLink. This includes internships, part-time or temp jobs (virtual or onsite) available to postgraduate and geared towards their career development.

  • Create awareness and encourage postgraduate students to take advantage of the numerous student support services available on campus such as Student support and Wellbeing Centre, Disability and dyslexia centre, Chaplaincy, etc.

  • Partner with departmental career advisors to organise practical conferences, talks and meetups that will prepare postgraduates about life after university.

  • Increase practical academic research experience and education through targeted international or national research conferences and conventions.

  • Create a link between new postgraduate students and graduating postgraduate students whilst fostering a connection between the Post graduate students in different departments.

  • Create awareness and Support mental health awareness program by encouraging postgraduate students to take advantage of the Roehampton student union and student support and wellbeing center’s commitment to provide support to students with mental health issues.

Thank you for reading my manifesto and feel free to contact/email me nwokeana@roehampton.ac.uk
