A Vote for Minaal, is a Voice for You. A New and Improved Normal.

Hello Roehampton, my name is Minaal Ali and I’m running to be your next RSU President. I’m currently finishing my Masters in Human Rights & Legal Practise. I’ve been a continuing student at Roehampton since my Bachelors where I was the Deputy and President of Southlands (2018/20). Throughout my time at Roehampton and in my officer role I have been fortunate enough to meet a variety of diverse individuals and work with the RSU and students to create an environment that positively impacts students and enables them to grow, which has been particularly difficult this year. If I'm elected as your next RSU President, I will aim to ensure that you’re given the opportunity to have a positive experience whilst at Roehampton.

Here are some things that under my tenure as Deputy and President of Southlands, through your leadership and voice, we have achieved:

  • Contactless washing machines.
  •  Wi-Fi routers in all rooms.
  • Variety of college events for on and off campus students: boat party/college cup.
  • Faster responses from maintenance and reimbursements for ongoing issues.
  • Better support system between students and staff, by making information to departments and staff members more accessible.

I am running to be your RSU President because:

There are still so many things for us to do. In my five years at Roehampton, I've seen the university evolve into a positive and diverse community and I want to continue that journey with you. COVID-19 has had a huge impact on us all, so it's important that we work on adjusting to a new and improved normal. It's important to me that you are valued at Roehampton and that you leave this University with unforgettable memories, and a successful future ahead of you.

As your RSU President, I will work with sabbatical officers and all other relevant staff members and departments to achieve all the following manifesto points:

Policies include but are not limited to:

Community

Improve social spaces/Organise social events: open air cinema, two day summer ball, boat parties and individual college events which will follow COVID-19 restrictions *if applicable.*

Improve accommodation, including Wi-Fi and maintenance issues.

Education

Work with necessary departments to further improve BAME attainment gap. Work with VP Education to ensure quality of teaching is plausible, especially with remote learning.

Improving Moodle structure for more simple ease of access.

Work with VP Education and Careers department to find students internships and graduate jobs whilst in university and as graduate.

Welfare

Work with VP Community and Welfare to increase engagement with support staff groups.

Mental health & sexual violence campaigns.

More lighting around campus to ensure the safety of students.

Bring attention to the hardship fund, with less restrictions on who can receive help.

Together we can create an environment where safety, inclusivity, and diversity are the foundation of our University. And together, we can create the new and improved normal.

I ask that you trust me with the responsibility of making your voices heard so that we can implement change.
