VOLUNTEERING / GO GREEN WEEK

This year Roehampton Students’ Union took part in the Green Impact Awards. Within the past two years, gaining the bronze award has always been an achievement but this year it was decided that the RSU would push for silver in hope that a new record would be set for the RSU.

Roehampton Students’ Union is a body that has full interaction with the Student Switch Off campaign. This campaign is a not-for-profit campaign run through a Community Interest Company. With regular participation from all four colleges, the Student Switch Off is a campaign that encourages students to save energy. With competitions such as photo competitions/pledge card competitions it brings the students and four colleges together in a fun, high spirited way. ‘On Your bike’ is a scheme implemented by the RSU to encourage students to cycle more around the University and local area. It is a free scheme where students can hire out a bike for a day and explore the local sites and different communities in the area.

Every year the RSU hold a ‘Go Green Week’ campaign where officers dedicate their week to organising fundraisers and hold different events/activities for the students to take part in. Students also get educated on the current environmental issues we face in the current climate and what they can do to reduce their carbon footprint.

Through these different schemes and links with external campaigns, the RSU is extremely keen to tackle any environmental issues they may face and encourage students at Roehampton to do what they can to reduce their carbon footprint.
