Date: APRIL 2012 (exact date TBC)
Time: TBC
Location: Froebel Allotment
Project info:
Volunteers will have the opportunity to celebrate the ‘March equinox’ (where the center of the Sun can be observed to be vertically overhead) during one of our very popular allotment Projects!
1pm – 2pm: Welcome Introduction Talk and Tour of the Allotment
Allotment Society members, Tessa and Rodrigo, will be giving a brief introductory talk about how the Froebel allotment first began, its progression over the years and their exciting plans for the future. Volunteers will also be given a brief tour around the allotment and for those of us who are new to planting and growing vegetables -Rodrigo will also be carrying out some planting Demo’s.
2pm - 4.30pm: Planting/Gardening and Best Dressed Scarecrow Competition
Volunteers will begin to prepare the current plots for planting, create new plots and generally restore the allotment in preparation for the spring season.
There’ll be a variety of roles –from mowing, digging, re-seeding, etc. –to creating your very own Scarecrow in our ‘Best Dressed Scarecrow Competition!’ and the winner will receive an ‘RU Outdoors goody-bag’ full of treats!
Gardening tools and gloves will be provided for all volunteers –just ensure that you wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions and gardening duties! Furthermore remember to bring along unwanted clothes/accessories if you wish to take part in the Scarecrow completion!
4.30pm –onwards: BBQ (Bring your own dish!)
Afterwards join us for a BBQ and a few beers! A small selection of drinks will be provided for volunteers but we’re asking everyone to bring along a dish that we can exchange and share with one another.
We’ll be lighting up the camp fire so feel free to bring along some marshmallows for toasting!
A mini-camping BBQ will be provided for cooking your food and also paper plates, cutlery and cups
