Dear Roehampton students
The Student Union Council (SUC) is the main decision making body for your Student Union and as its chairperson, I see my job not only to facilitate its meetings but also to help promote its accountability, transparency and democratic decision making in line with our Constitution.
I can’t do this on my own though, as any Student Union is only as democratic as its student body wants it to be. For this reason, I would like to invite you to come along to any of our meetings to see for yourself exactly how RSU democracy works and to find out more about what we do. We are all committed to enhancing the experience of Roehampton students through representation, development, activities, services and support. To do this, the SUC brings together all of your student representatives once a month to discuss and decide RSU policy that will hopefully make a difference to your time here at Roehampton. That’s why of course it’s so important that we should be accountable to you for our work. So, why not come along and see for yourself what goes on?
Maybe you’d like to just come and listen, or even get involved in the debates? It’s really up to you. You can even decide what matters are discussed during the meetings, as long as you propose a motion by email to the Student Union President at least 7 college working days in advance, as well as having someone prepared to second your proposal.
We meet once a month during the academic year between 5pm and 7pm in Montefiore Hall in Froebel. The meeting dates for 2009-10 can be found below.
Finally, I look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible to the SUC and if you have any questions about SUC business, please feel free to contact me on the email below.
